On June 7, 1966, New York Senator Robert F. Kennedy became one of the first major American politicians to take a public stand against South African Apartheid when he delivered an address to the National Union of South African Students in New York City. 

Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly. And when darkness comes — as it will — and disaster strikes — as it must — then we will remember that even the most gallant and strong-hearted among us still need the touch of human kindness.
